"account": "A 20-year-old US Marine was arrested in Japan on suspicion of murdering a Japanese woman, police announced on Sunday (Oct 4). The suspect allegedly killed the 39-year-old woman at a hotel in Naha and stole her wallet on Saturday, according to a local police spokesperson who spoke to AFP. US Ambassador George Glass conveyed condolences to Japan's foreign ministry and Okinawa's governor via social media, pledging full cooperation as the investigation progresses. CCTV footage reportedly showed a foreign man entering a room with a woman and leaving with her belongings. Police identified the 20-year-old Marine, matching the description from the footage, and arrested him at a local police station. He denied the charges. The United States maintains around 54,000 military personnel in Japan, primarily on Okinawa. Numerous crimes, including sexual assaults, assaults, hit-and-run incidents, and drink-driving accidents, have involved US personnel, causing ongoing protests and friction between Japan and the US.",
