"account": "Tennessee's prison chief is resigning following the failed execution of death row inmate Christa Pike on Wednesday. Governor Bill Lee announced the resignation on Saturday, stating it was in the best interests of the state and in response to an ongoing investigation into the incident. Pike, sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer, survived two lethal injections and is currently in critical condition at a Tennessee hospital. Her lawyers argue that her medical history and anatomy posed a risk of unnecessary pain and suffering during the execution. Governor Lee has ordered an independent review of Pike's attempted execution and halted all executions in the state for the year. Pike's legal team maintains that the resignation does not help Christa now, but rather exposes systemic issues within Tennessee's death penalty system. The state's Department of Correction defends the execution method, stating it adheres to the established protocol, but has not yet determined whether they will attempt the execution again. Pike's attorneys have filed an emergency motion to preserve any evidence related to the failed execution. The state's Supreme Court rejected two attempts to halt the lethal injection, and Pike's clemency request was also denied, making her the only woman on Tennessee's death row.",
