"account": "Indiana Fever point guard Kelsey Mitchell has revealed she must prioritize her own interests during the upcoming free agency period, potentially signaling her departure from the team she has played for since 2018. Speaking to reporters about her exit from the franchise following their playoff elimination this season, Mitchell stated that she must put her needs first in her WNBA future. While acknowledging the positive aspects of being part of the Fever, Mitchell emphasized the importance of having good chemistry both on and off the court. Mitchell, who averaged 24.7 points in her MVP-level 2026 season, highlighted the difficulty of figuring out her future given her long tenure with one team. Losing Mitchell, who will be 30 years old during the 2027 season, would significantly impact the Fever's competitiveness and title aspirations. The team currently possesses other star players in Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, but Mitchell's absence would require a significant move to maintain their position as a contender. Mitchell's decision may hinge on whether another superstar player, such as Napheesa Collier, can be signed, or if staying with the team could still enable them to remain competitive without her. Mitchell's potential free agency decision is expected to take place in late January or early February 2027.",
