"summary": "In a tragic incident in Benue State, a wooden boat carrying over 70 mourners and over 30 motorcycles capsized on the River Katsina-Ala, leading to many people being feared missing. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026, around 11am, when the boat overturned while crossing the river in Buruku Local Government Area. The passengers, mostly from Mbayon in Gboko Local Government Area, were returning from a burial ceremony when the boat capsized due to engine failure and heavy waves. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate those who remain unaccounted for. The chairman of Buruku Local Government, Raymond Zege, confirmed the mishap and urged passengers to observe maritime safety guidelines, including wearing life jackets, which the local government has provided but enforcement has faced challenges.",
