Investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances, motivations, and potential connections to radical groups, as well as to analyze physical and digital evidence related to the incident. The co-pilot, identified as Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani national, had previously been barred from flying in Oman due to his extremist beliefs. The plane, en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv, narrowly avoided catastrophe when the Indian captain managed to open the cockpit door, enabling passengers and crew to overpower the assailant and force an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alleged that the suspect had undergone Islamist radical indoctrination and intended to crash the plane. Reports suggest that Omani authorities had previously banned the pilot from flying due to his adoption of radical ideological views, citing concerns over extremist views and a stint in Syria.", "summary": "The co-pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073 attempted to carry out a \"terrorist\" attack during the flight, the United Arab Emirates prosecutor general has said, according to the state news agency WAM.", "key_points": [], "editors_take": null, "illustration": null, "coverage": { "outlets": 15, "also_reported_by": [ { "outlet": "NDTV", "title": "flydubai Co-Pilot Was Banned By Oman From Flying Over Extremist Views: Report", "url": "https://urgent.news/2026/10/03/flydubai-co-pilot-was-banned-by-oman-from-flying-over-extremist-views", "published": "2026-10-03T01:51:16.000Z" }, { "outlet": "Hindustan Times - World News", "title": "Flying ban in Oman, spent time in Syria, held ‘radical views’: What we know about flydubai co-pilot", "url": "https://urgent.news/2026/10/03/flying-ban-in-oman-spent-time-in-syria-held-radical-views-what-we", "published": "2026-10-03T02:22:51.000Z" }, { "outlet": "Malay Mail", "title": "How did he get back in the cockpit?
