"account": "Taiwan's first two F-16V fighter jets have arrived to bolster defenses against China, according to a report. The delivery, which took place at Taitung's Chihhang Air Base on the island's east coast, comes after months of delays. President Lai Ching-te expressed gratitude to the United States for its support via a Facebook post. Defence Minister Wellington Koo hinted at more F-16Vs to follow soon. The delivery of the F-16Vs, which were ordered in 2019, highlights Taiwan's growing concern over China's military advancements. US officials believe a Chinese invasion of Taiwan before 2028 is unlikely, but the threat remains significant. Taiwan also has its own ambitious domestic weapons programme, including the development of submarines, which have faced their own delays.",
"summary": "The first two of a batch of 66 new F-16V Block 70 fighter jets ordered in 2019 arrived in Taiwan on Friday after months of delays, helping to strengthen an air force that has to scramble almost daily to shadow China's military.",
