"summary": "The postmortem report on police dog Sky, a Belgian Shepherd trained to detect arson accelerants, reveals a grim picture of the service dog's final hours. Sky was euthanized after suffering catastrophic injuries while confined in a small, windowless kennel for up to 18 hours a day at the SAPS Veterinary Hospital in Roodeplaat, Pretoria. The report identifies several fractures, severe muscle breakdown, kidney damage, and acute changes to her heart muscle, all of which were likely to be fatal if not treated. The incident has raised questions about the care of other SAPS service animals, with parliamentary police committee chair Ian Cameron raising concerns about their welfare and initiating a criminal case.",
