"account": "Former NBA player Anthony Tolliver is challenging the widely held belief that New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson sacrificed over $100 million when he signed his contract extension with the team. In a recent episode of \"To The Baha,\" Tolliver clarified that the actual financial sacrifice was closer to $15 to $20 million, not even close to the commonly cited figure of $100 million. Brunson signed a four-year, $156.5 million extension in July 2024 instead of waiting for a potentially higher five-year, $269 million deal the following offseason. While the difference in guaranteed money was approximately $113 million, Tolliver explained that Brunson’s shorter contract extension allowed him to become eligible for a new lucrative contract sooner and positioned him for early extension opportunities that could generate more money in the long run. The extension also helped the Knicks build a championship roster, as Brunson led the team to their first NBA championship since 1973 during the 2025-26 season, earning NBA Finals MVP honors in the process. As the Knicks prepare to defend their championship in the 2026-27 campaign, the contract remains a significant part of their roster construction, even as Tolliver challenges the popular narrative surrounding the extent of Brunson’s sacrifices.",
