"summary": "Eight male students aged 16 drowned while on a picnic at Diveagar beach in Maharashtra's Raigad district on October 1, 2026. The group of 48, including 25 boys, 17 girls, and six teachers, had gone for a picnic under the Dighi coastal police station limits. The tragedy occurred when the eight students ventured into the sea and were swept away due to misjudging the water's depth and current. Local MLA Mahendra Dalvi criticized the local administration for failing to provide adequate safety precautions, emphasizing the risks posed by the sea, especially for young schoolchildren who may not be aware of high tide or water depth. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed condolences, and the local administration is coordinating the transportation of the bodies.",
