"summary": "The National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has been suspended by President John Dramani Mahama over allegations of involvement in a World Cup visa scandal. The controversy arose after claims emerged that approximately US$623,000 was received from prospective travellers seeking assistance with visa and travel arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Some applicants were reportedly charged up to US$8,000, leading to an investigation by the Ghana Police Service's Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Mr. Ampofo Ankrah and others connected to the matter were questioned by CID investigators, with the director-general denying the allegations. The NSA has denied authorizing any visa facilitation service or the collection of money from the public, and its legal team is cooperating with the police investigation. The suspension comes as the NSA faces scrutiny over its alleged involvement in the visa arrangements, following President Mahama's decision to dissolve the governing board of the NSA earlier this month.",
