"account": "The University of Buenos Aires announced it will grant Argentina's national football captain, Lionel Messi, an honorary doctorate in recognition of his professional career and contributions to the country. The decision was unanimously approved by the university's Higher Council, and the honorary degree will be presented to Messi on October 6, before Argentina's final match against Benin at the Monumental Stadium. The university deemed this the highest honorary degree it offers and highlighted Messi's career as an example of excellence, perseverance, humility, and ethical practice. He is also praised for his role in leading Argentina to major international titles, including the 2021 Copa América, 2022 FIFA World Cup, 2024 Copa América, and Argentina's runner-up finish at the 2026 World Cup.\n\nRector of the University of Buenos Aires, Ricardo Gelpi, stated that the university aimed to acknowledge Messi beyond his football statistics and achievements. They wanted to recognize a humble, persevering individual who embodies popular culture and national identity. Gelpi emphasized that the distinction would highlight Messi's influence through sport and his representation of Argentina. Vice-Rector Emiliano Yacobitti of the university added that the honor also acknowledged the values Messi represented while representing the national team. He highlighted Messi's ability to convey the values of the Argentine jersey and take it to the highest level of world football. The university explained that honorary doctorates are part of a long tradition of top-tier educational institutions recognizing individuals whose achievements and influence extend beyond their professional fields. This honor comes as Messi prepares for what is expected to be his final appearance for Argentina in the upcoming farewell match against Benin on October 6.",
