Former Sokoto Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, urged Nigerians to promote unity, peace, and mutual understanding on this occasion.\n\nThe National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, released an Independence Day message. According to Yilwatda, Nigeria is moving towards becoming a stronger and more prosperous nation despite current economic challenges.\n\nYilwatda stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had introduced reforms to address longstanding structural challenges, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and foreign exchange reforms. He cited World Bank figures showing Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.2 per cent in the first half of 2026, with gross foreign reserves at $51.9 billion at the end of July, according to Daily Post Nigeria.",
