"account": "Independent bookstore Book Bar is relocating from Duxton Road to the Tiong Bahru Community Centre, where it will enjoy a significantly larger space. The move is part of the bookstore's efforts to continue serving Singapore literature and fostering a community of readers. Founded by Alex Chua and Sara Ng, Book Bar opened in Duxton Road in July 2023, initially focusing on contemporary fiction, memoirs, essays, and children's books. As a cafe and community hub, Book Bar regularly hosts book launches, author conversations, workshops, and other literary events. The search for a new home began earlier this year as the bookstore approached the end of its lease in June 2026. Tiong Bahru Community Centre was one of the suggested options, and after tendering for it, Book Bar secured the space. Rent was a primary concern for the move, especially considering the bookstore's sustainability in the Duxton and Chinatown area. Chua expressed both sadness at leaving Duxton, where Book Bar began, and excitement for the new location, which will provide more room to expand its selection and host more events. The renovation of Book Bar's new Tiong Bahru home is expected to be completed by December 2026.",
"summary": "The independent bookstore's new home at Tiong Bahru Community Centre is currently undergoing renovation and will be about twice the size, allowing it to stock more titles and hold more literary events.",
