"account": "The US Supreme Court has permitted the execution of Christa Pike, a Tennessee inmate, to proceed, disregarding a sudden stay. The lethal injection was set to occur on Wednesday before the Sixth Circuit Appeals court intervened. In response, Tennessee's attorney general promptly petitioned the Supreme Court to reverse the stay. Pike, aged 50, has been scheduled for execution since her conviction and death sentence in 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer. If the execution takes place, Christa Pike will be the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years. This news item is under continuous update, with further details to be released shortly.
